Do our machines live private lives of their own? Well, not yet, but scientists seriously predict that in about 30 years’ time, computer intelligence will rival our own.
How shall we treat these machines? Scientists have succeeded in developing intelligent machines that can do all things better than human beings can do!
Although nothing can and will ever replace the power of human touch, nothing can and will ever replace the efficiency and results obtained by a machine.
Consumers visiting our centers are becoming more demanding and expecting better results than ever before due to an increase in knowledge and education about their skins, health, ageing, nutrition, etc.... Let’s face it: everyone would like to look young forever and we are looking at ways to preserve our youth. While electrical appliances can never replace the therapist’s touch and personal knowledge, they will improve the results delivered to the skin, resulting in a satisfied client who will return to maintain that perfect skin.
The mind-blowing world of technology is constantly expanding, with new and exciting pieces of equipment constantly being launched into the market that deliver exceptional results. When used effectively and by choosing the right piece of equipment suited to your clients’ and salon’s needs, these electrical appliances give the therapists the edge professionally while providing consumers with amazing results.
Just as the outside world relies on technology to advance and deliver, so too can therapists depend on machines to change their client’s skin. In fact, the use of electrical equipment in treatments today should be taken as seriously as using a cleanser or toner when doing a facial: would you skip out using a cleanser or toner? Having interviewed five salon owners on this very subject, I received the following feedback.
Cape Town salon owner: “I want to work smarter, not harder. Machines make my work smarter as they deliver the results my clients want, they make me more money and physically my work is less!”
Lenasia salon owner: ‘My clients love machines, any machines, it doesn’t matter what they are. So when it comes to offering solutions to ageing or cellulite, no product or hands can do the job my machines do.”
East London salon owner: “I want to make more money, my clients want better results. A machine answers both our needs.”
Pretoria salon owner: “When a new client comes to our salon one of the questions that will come up is, what machines do we work with? The consumer is becoming educated about the power and results a machine can offer, so we will not be without machines. I bought one last year and I will buy another one this year!”
Fourways spa owner: “Consumers come to our spa for relaxation and pampering yet they are all looking for ways to stay younger and thinner. So if we don’t offer that solution they will look for it somewhere else.”
Electrical equipment works best on the skin and is more effective when offering anti-ageing solutions. It can stimulate collagen and elastin production. Help reverse environmental skin damage, increase lymphatic flow in the system, and much more.
The reality is there, the need for machines in your salon is now more evident than ever before, the daunting task is deciding which one is right for your business.
Exciting technologies available:
LED (Light emitting diode) Micro-Current Muscle Stimulation IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) OPE (Optimal Power Energy)
Oxygen Concentrators Far Infra Red Fat - melting Vibration therapy Chromotherapy Galvanic
Choosing the right pieceof equipment This is where teaming up with a professional spa business consultant is important. They will help analyse your business and client base and help you make the decision as to which machine you should introduce first.
A good start will be keeping adequate client record cards and having an understanding of your client base. At the end of the day, the people who are going to pay you for these mechanical treatments are your current client base. What’s more is that a machine will open up doors to a whole new world of clients if marketed and promoted correctly.
When choosing your machines, ensure that your supplier is reputable; get references from other salons that are using the machines. Ensure the machines have a minimum 12-month warranty and that your supplier has back-up service. Ask for the name and number of the company who services and repairs the machines and call them to ask about the company and the machines you are interested in. Ensure your treatment prices are affordable to your clients, and most importantly, make you money and are profitable. It does not help to have an affordable treatment if your profit margin is very low. Be careful of this and do your costings carefully.
Start marketing and promoting the machine service before the machine arrives in your salon as this will create excitement and hype! Run a competition with the prize of a machine treatment or course. Try to buy a machine that has more than just one function, as this gives you a wider scope of target market. And most importantly, make sure your machine offers solutions to problems that are real.
The success of the machine in your salon depends exclusively on the operators of the machine. If they are excited, are continuously talking about it and believe in the machine, the treatments will fly.
